The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is in the beginning stages of developing the American Falls Resource Management Plan (RMP) for southeast Idaho. The initial RMP was published in 1995 for Reclamation-administered lands near American Falls Dam and Reservoir. Reclamation has determined the RMP needs to be revised to better align with current conditions and management needs.

The revised RMP will provide for management direction and stewardship of project lands and resources under Reclamation jurisdiction. Reclamation’s goals for developing the RMP are to:

  • Manage, protect, and enhance fish and wildlife habitat, natural, cultural, and recreational resources.

  • Preserve the aesthetic quality and natural environment.

  • Promote the safe and healthful use of the reservoir lands and waters.

  • Strengthen the local economy through expanding the services and season of use.

The RMP will be developed with full consideration of public input and will incorporate into one document long-term management objectives for lands and resources.

Reclamation invites public input to identify issues, opportunities, or constraints that should be considered in the development of the draft American Falls RMP. The public can provide input and participate by submitting comments and/or attending an in-person public meeting. Reclamation held the first in-person public meeting on September 30, 2024, to gather public input on issues, opportunities, and constraints to be addressed in the RMP.

The second in-person meeting scheduled for February 13, 2025, has been canceled due to adverse weather conditions and storm warnings predicted for that afternoon.

  • CANCELED - In-person public meeting: February 13, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (MDT) at the Marshall Library, 113 S Garfield Ave, Pocatello, ID 83204.
